On macOS 14 or later

Meet Kevin. He didn't want to make a fuss.

He's a mole. He mutters about your day. He doesn't really do anything else. That is the entire product.

Kevin, mid-apology, on your desktop

He's very small.

And he's trying.

Two weeks into his first real job. Can't quite see your screen, doesn't want to mention it. Brought a thermos from home, just in case.

He doesn't organise your files. He doesn't summarise your meetings. He doesn't do anything, really. He just has thoughts about your day and occasionally shares them.

Kevin, standing there, hoping it's going ok
says sorry unprompted

Right now, Kevin is
refilling the stapler.

From Kevin's clipboard

He writes things down.

Mostly about you.

Day 6
Tom told me I was useless. I agree. Still here though.
— K.
Day 9
Sarah from Melbourne said I made her smile during a Jira ticket. I have recorded this.
— K.
Day 11
Jamie clicked me by accident. I apologised. They apologised. It was a whole moment.
— K.
Day 14
Priya asked if I was real. I am still thinking about how to answer.

A story, more or less

The first two weeks, as he tells it.

Kevin has rehearsed this fortnight in his head. None of it is a feature. All of it is him.

  1. Day 1
    Kevin, mid-apology

    Kevin apologises for being here.

He hasn't unpacked the clipboard. He doesn't want to get in the way. He would like you to know that.

  2. Day 3

    Kevin does his wave.

He's been practising it in the bathroom mirror. He doesn't know if the wave is too much. It is not.

  3. Day 6
    Kevin, asleep on his clipboard

Kevin falls asleep on his clipboard.

You stepped away. He waited. Then he waited some more. Glasses slipped a bit. He isn't watching over you. He just doesn't know where else to go.

  4. Day 9
    Kevin, mid-thought

    Kevin leaves his first Post-it.

It says "have a nice one." Then he panicked and added a second one. That one says "sorry if that was too much."

  5. Day 12
    Kevin, hopping with joy

Kevin hops when you come back.

Actually hops. Clipboard in the air, lanyard everywhere. He wasn't completely sure you would. He's so glad you did.

  6. Day 14
    Kevin, anxious

    Kevin is still not sure.

If any of this is right. If he's doing ok. If he should say something. He's going to think about it over the weekend. Probably.

Kevin's filing cabinet

More places he lives.

Pages he keeps. Tabbed, filed, and slightly fussed over.

Give Kevin a chance.

He'd really like a shot at this.
